This is a fine example of a vintage Lachenal English concertina featuring rosewood ends, metal buttons, steel reeds and original 5 fold green leather bellows. Made around the turn of the last century, this is a bright sounding instrument with good volume and quick reed response.
Cosmetically, it looks better in the flesh than it does in photographs - There is the usual wear in the varnish which shows up exaggerated by camera flash. It would be quite possible to repair the finish although I don't think it'd bother me that much, personally, as it feels fine to play. It could probably do with new thumbstraps. I suspect the ones on it at the moment were last replaced a good 30 years ago.
All in all, an excellent concertina that will only improve with being played in (as with all vintage instruments, long periods of not being played results in an instrument that's "gone to sleep" a bit) - This sounds great at the moment, but will get better and better the more use it has. A true concertina of excellent quality at less than the cost of a modern accordion reeded hybrid.
