Many years ago, my Dad knew a bloke who had an Austin A30 that he liked a lot, but wasn't quite satisfied with... The story goes that he replaced the springs and shocks, then felt the performance wasn't quite right so he put a higher ratio gearbox in etc etc...Anyway, he ended up with a Jaguar V6 block or some-such in this machine (having cut the car in half and welded extra sections of chassis and bodywork to accomodate it.!)
What's all this got to do with squeezeboxes? I hear you cry...Well, the Binci is a bit like my Dad's mate's car. To cut a long story short, Martyn Banks of Oakwood instruments was looking at the Dino Baffetti Carnival II model (an extremely good melodeon in it's own right) and started wondering about ways to improve it. The Binci is the result of his considerable modifications.
Most critically, it sports top of the range hand made Binci reeds, widely regarded as the best reeds available for melodeons (and indeed, Martyn's reeds of choice for his highly sought after Oakwood Melodeons - before you ask, he's got no plans to make any more Oakwood squeezboxes in the foreseeable future). Anyhow, these reeds are loud, bright and responsive to a greater degree than anything else you've ever heard.
Martyn has also redesigned the treble grille in order to project more sound out of the instrument, and added a stop to the left hand side of the instrument. I think he's also done something subtle with the keyboard action as it's VERY fast, only he won't tell me exactly what.....
Anyway, to cut a long story short, this is a supercharged Baffetti. No one believed an A30 could do 135 MPH in 1966...This box is a similar revelation.
These melodeons are only available from us, to order. It is VERY rare that we have one on the shelves as they always sell within days of becoming available. Martyn currently has 4 of them lined up in the tuning bay - Order yours now!
